About the Bay Area All Stars
The Elfenworks Foundation is pleased to support The Bay Area All Stars,
an after-school, performance-based enrichment program for inner-city youth.
The Elfenworks Foundation has selected Joyce Dattner, founder and director
of the Bay Area All Stars
as one of four recipients of our inaugural In Harmony With Hope Awards,
presented at the Concert for Hope celebration of the opening of the Center for the Study
of Poverty and Inequality at Stanford University, September 6, 2007.
About the All Stars
Several years ago, we attended the very first Bay Area fundraiser for the All Stars program, but back then we didn't yet fully grasp the program's power. The Bay Area All Stars channel the energies of often disadvantaged youths away from the violence and apathy that encircle them. But they do more than simply "keep kids off the streets." In the All-Stars Project, kids find a voice and learn how to make it heard. Shakespeare wrote that "all the world's a stage." All-Stars kids develop skills for the many roles they'll play as engaged, responsible citizens of their own communities and the greater society. About Joyce Dattner, President
Joyce Dattner left a teaching career in the New York City public school system in the early
197O's in order to pursue alternative, creative and effective ways of mitigating the devastating
effects of chronic poverty on inner city youth. Joyce Dattner is the Director of the West Coast
Center for Life Performance Coaching and on the faculty of the East Side Institute and has led
trainings in performance-based approach around the world. But we are recognizing her today
especially for her work as a founder and member of the Board of Directors of one of the country's
largest anti-violence youth development programs, the All Stars Project and the Founder and Director
of the Bay Area All Stars.
