Elfenworks Foundation
In Harmony With Heart of America

2007 READesign Effort The Heart of America Foundation's mission is to teach the values at the heart of America and to help people, particularly children, learn that they help themselves when they help others. Their goal is to give children everywhere the tools they need to read, succeed and make a difference. Their programs uniquely combine character education, literacy, and service learning.

The Elfenworks Foundation is pleased to support one of The Heart of America's newest initiatives: READesign, a "library makeover" program that revitalizes elementary school libraries into warm, friendly places that engage children in learning, fostering a love of reading. Each themed READesignSM library makeover includes vibrant paint, murals or original paintings by a Disney artist, new furniture, and 1,000 new, high-quality library books.

2007 READesign Effort On September 15, 2007, with the generous support of Target, scores of volunteers renovated the eighth library in the READesign program at a school in San Jose, California. The Elfenworks Foundation partnered with The Heart of America (HOA) to provide the library with a Smartboard system to facilitate teacher communication with students and the school's parent body. Additionally, The Elfenworks Foundation will support HOA's Ambassadors program. Five ambassadors served as team leaders at the San Jose READesign. Through supervising elements of the one-day renovation, these remarkable young people provided a powerful example of service in action to the elementary school students. In an ongoing way, they also motivate the young people and help instill a love of learning through their inspirational stories: Nick Walters, Amber Coffman, Melissa Morgan and Jacob Green.

By lending support to the READesign program, The Elfenwworks Foundation is working to win back the hearts and minds of our country's at-risk children. Below, some of the volunteers (our Chief Operating Officer is second from left).
