We are a non-governmental group, not affiliated with law enforcement, however we applaud their peace keeping efforts, welcome their counsel, and are happy to assist where possible, in our home town.
Canine Units
We provided matching funds so that there would be sufficient money for a new police K9 (canine) for the Burlingame Police Department, an invaluable tool in the prevention of crime and criminal activity in the city. The Burlingame Police Department, currently enlisting only one K9, hopes to grow the unit back to its former size, when they were able to have a K9 available on all shifts in Burlingame. Because of budget constraints, the size of the unit has been reduced, and their goal is to bring back these dogs proven helpful with tracking suspects and lost individuals, speeding up searches of large areas or buildings, and detecting narcotics and explosives in areas that humans often overlook. These dogs are also useful in education, when they are brought into the school room situation. 2008 Status Update
Sargeant Jeff Downs has informed our CEO that as of the beginning of 2008 the Burlingame Police is now only $9,000 away from its goal of a purchase of three new dogs, so that they can staff each team with a dog. There are 4 teams, but K-9 Niko is still in service. They truly appreciate the wonderful show of public support so far. They have chosen the new handlers and will be selecting two animals later this month. They continue fundraising efforts to raise the remaining $9,000 for the purchase of the third dog and would appreciate donations and help spreading the word.
